Webinar on Leadership Risk in Private Equity

Will management deliver? Due diligence on leadership risk and future potential

Friday, May 22, 11:00 BST – 12:00 CEST

When a transaction closes, the focus typically shifts to integration plans, value creation levers, and exit timelines. Yet one question often remains under-examined: does the existing leadership team have the capacity to deliver the investment case under new ownership?

This session brings together AvS Advisors consultants Frederik Otto, Helene Renoul-Grimm and Nick Harris for a cross-European conversation on leadership risk in private equity. Drawing on recent mandates with financial sponsors, they will explore how investors can move beyond intuition and assess management teams with greater rigour before signing.

The discussion will centre on Management Potential Analysis (MPA), a structured, evidence-based approach to evaluating whether executives can scale with the ownership model, where capability gaps may sit, and how leadership teams should be shaped post-closing.

Topics will include:

  • Why leadership risk remains one of the least systematised elements of deal diligence
  • What typically goes wrong post-closing—and how it links back to pre-deal assessment
  • How sponsors are using structured assessment to validate (or challenge) incumbent CEOs and teams
  • Identifying hidden succession risks and capability gaps ahead of signing
  • Aligning leadership capability with the investment horizon and exit strategy
  • Practical examples of how MPA informs decision-making before and after the deal

The session is designed for financial sponsors and investment professionals involved in deal execution and value creation. It will offer a practical lens on how to strengthen judgement at one of the most consequential points in the investment cycle.
