Virtual Roundtable Synopsis: How Family Businesses Navigate Global Issues

AvS Advisors convened a Virtual Roundtable together with the John L. Ward Center for Family Enterprises at the Kellogg School of Management. Against a backdrop of geopolitical disruption, inflation, regulation, and demographic shifts, the discussion explored how family enterprises can make robust decisions under persistent uncertainty and how governance and long term planning can be strengthened accordingly.

The panel featured Professor Matt Allen, Executive Director of the John L. Ward Center for Family Enterprises at Northwestern University’s Kellogg School of Management, and Edward Brenninkmeyer, Chief Investment Officer at Amesto and a sixth generation director at COFRA, the family business holding company, alongside Andreas von Specht, Managing Partner at AvS Advisors. The discussion was moderated by Frederik Otto. A subsequent roundtable exchange took place under the Chatham House Rule.

We summarised key takeaways from the panel and the discussion, including how to approach AI as strategic infrastructure, what pace of adoption is realistic, and how governance can support not only risk control but also strategic execution. The PDF is available for download below.
